Not Every Consumer Is Aware Of Defective Products They Could Be Using
On March 11, 2011, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released the unveiling of their new web site to help consumers report or stay informed of product recalls or product defects.
The data base www.SaferProducts.gov was constructed after a mandate from Congress due to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. Under this law, the CPSC will review all new reports and will have 5 business days to contact the manufacturer of any new problems. In turn, the manufacturer will have 10 business days to respond. After the 10 day grace period and any response from the manufacturer, any comments received by the manufacturer will be placed on the safer products web site. This new procedure will hopefully identify faulty products or hazards more quickly and alert consumers sooner of any potential dangers. Unfortunately, many consumers are not aware that a product they are using or driving may be defective until it is too late.
Defective products can cause automobile accidents, explosions, choking or strangulation, falls, motorcycle accidents, playground accidents, roll-overs, tractor trailer hitch problems, jackknifed tractor trailer accidents, construction accidents and many other catastrophic accidents. Product defects can cause serious injuries such as burns, crush injuries, electrocutions, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, paralysis, hypoxia or a lack of oxygen, drowning, head traumas, amputations, vision and hearing loss, and even death.
