Doctor Psychiatrist Abuse Attorneys

The Hippocratic Oath is an oath that doctors take to promise to remain ethical when caring for patients. Even though the Oath has changed over the years, since 1964, medical students still recite a modern version of the Oath. One part of the Oath is, “I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.” Unfortunately, not all physicians or psychiatrists who that take the Oath, remain ethical.

Sadly, when some patients are frail, vulnerable and defenseless, they are taken advantage of by the one person they put all their trust in, their doctor, therapist, dentist, nurse, or psychiatrist.

Acts Of Injustice To Vulnerable Patients: Physician And Psychiatrist Abuse

On February, 18, 2001, Delaware State Police were looking for a medical resident, Shyamkrishnan Ramdas, on charges that he had unlawful sexual encounters with six female patients while he was giving them a physical examination.

On January 19, 2011, psychiatrist Charles D. Morgan’s surrendered his license to practice medicine for unprofessional conduct. Dr. Morgan admitted a female patient to the hospital for electroshock therapy. While she was hospitalized, Dr. Morgan had an inappropriate sexual encounter with her.

Psychiatrists account for approximately six percent of all doctors, yet they are responsible for thirty-three percent of all the inappropriate sexual assaults committed by doctors. Even more frightening is those sexual crimes committed by psychiatrists are thirty-seven times greater than rapes occurring in the general community. In the United States, it is estimated that approximately 150,000 females have been sexually abused by their psychiatrists. Psychiatrists themselves indicate that sixty-five percent of their new patients inform them that previous psychiatrists have sexually abused them. Sexual assault or rape is not just limited to females. Men are also victims of sexual abuse or rape.

Sexual assault may include rape, forced penetration, forced intercourse, inappropriate touching, or forced kissing. Victims of rape or sexual assault may get over the physical pain of being violated, but are often left with the emotional scars such as feelings of no self worth, denial, crying spells, paranoia, helplessness, loneliness, shame, anxiety, nightmares, insomnia or inability to sleep, flashbacks, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), numbness, withdraw, depression, fear of relationships or intimacy, or promiscuity. Many victims of sexual abuse turn to drugs or alcohol to help dull the pain that is constantly haunting and tormenting them.
